Progress 30.03.2026 and Changelog for Sorcerer 2 0.6.0

Hello all!

Well, it was too tall an order to expect things to go smoothly, but that being said... it is release day. So what’s up?

Started rendering 0.7.0, shock there, I know. I won’t get that much done because of the whole do the builds thing today. Which went too smoothly, and I fully expect something to blow up. But overall, the usual start of a new update as renders go.

Writing? Yeah... Did I mention that I had to re-render four of the animations? No? Well, now I did, thus it ate time from writing, so a bit behind. But depending on how sleepy I feel tonight, I might catch up with it, mostly. Eh, not too concerned about it.



And then... plot twists? Well, not really. Not everything is as it seems, though. I have a couple of regrets in this update (0.7.0). Everything is as it should be, just I’m not entirely happy how they went. Not enough choices to give. There was one obvious place in the update, but I wrote it a bit, and it would have led to a dead end. I try to keep as close as possible to the lore I’ve established. I’ve bent it in places, but never really broken it. That path would have ended up breaking the lore substantially. It was good writing in my opinion, just not the right game for it. Anyway...

Progress 27.03.2026

Hello all!

Yeah... final scene to render. Well, about five renders, really. It has been... a lot. I’m at 565 renders, minus fixes and a few extras. And then need to do a couple of portrait renders. Ehh... And on top of everything, I needed to add a scene to update 6 so things make sense in 7... whee... But that being said, rendering is done tonight. Hopefully. I get to do most, if not all, of the post work tonight as well. So tomorrow there will be only coding things. I might need to rethink the release schedule a bit since there is a lot of work, as everything requires new sets to be made at this stage. That and we are heading towards summer, so things might get a bit hairy especially now that I’m trying to do animations of some sort. Annoying.

Anyway, writing? Writing is... where it is supposed to be, although I’m slightly skeptical about my ability to finish it when I want. But I’ll try...

And this is the extra scene. It’s Detective Randall’s initiation (part 1) to secrets. It shouldn’t be a too big of a spoiler that it happens sooner or later. There are a lot of these... let’s call them world-building scenes. Especially if we pair them with the hidden renders. This is something "new" that I’m trying to do with Sorcerer 2, giving more glimpses of what else is going on... as long as they make a sort of sense. This scene, I could have skipped, but it helps to know things in update 7 so it makes sense. Eh, enough rambling, short break and finishing up the renders. You all have a great weekend!

Progress 23.03.2026

Hello all!

How is it going? Decently on my end. One scene that I expected to take longer took longer. But it was worth doing the scene; now I know what to expect in the future. So all is good, fourish scenes to render. Four and a half, maybe. Rendering times aren’t ideal for the scenes, but it is what it is; reflections tends to be annoying.

Writing? It is in a good place overall, still not in the rhythm I would want, but getting there.

 

Mystery person, or maybe not, all things considered. This is a scene that can be missed. So if you don’t see her, well, you might want to think about your choices. Well, a choice. It isn’t anything crucial as is. Nothing important haven’t been lost... yet. Right, time for a quick break and then finish up the scene I’m doing.

Progress 20.03.2026

Hello all!

So, how are things? Rendering is going all right. Script and render count wise I’m about where I should be. Although I had to build three sets, and still twoish sets to do. The usual. That and I’m doing a scene that I’m not entirely sure how to do at the moment, as it is a bit complex one. But I’ll figure it out. Oh, and I made some "paintings". Someone remind me towards the end of the month to compile the stuff into a zip.

Beyond that? Writing is going okayish, should be able to write what I want tonight since... well, the next bit will take hours to render. Interesting times ahead.

Li... Thought I had forgotten about her? Not a chance. And Aina is there as well. Two variants of the scene, and of course, a choice to skip things. And even if you would want to avoid Li completely, which is an option. You won’t get locked out of "important" information though; that is ensured. Right, so, a shortish break and then more rendering. You all have a great weekend!

Progress 16.03.2026 and Changelog for Sorcerer 2 0.5.0

Hello all!

Well, as you can guess from the title, release is soon... ish. Although slight change of plans with... limited download links for now, I’ll put them up as soon as they are available through the evening/night/day. Apparently, the larger ones, for some reason, take their... time.

Other than that? Started rendering 0.6.0, nothing shocking there. As for writing? It’s moving on to 10, so yeah... things are looking okay.


This was an environmental test; obviously, I can’t show what I’m working on right now since that would be a spoiler. But I’m not fully happy with this; some of the textures aren’t... that great. Mostly the ground and some of the stonework. I fixed a few errors but some? Some need a full shader replacement if used during daylight. So why I show this again if I’m not happy? Same reason why I don’t do remasters. You learn from mistakes. And at times if I test something, it might help someone else to avoid the same errors. In this? I would swap the terrace and the ground textures. Will it work? That would be another test. Although... there was another reason for this. And she is in the shadows. Anyway, the important stuff.

Progress 13.03.2023

Hello all!

Rendering is done, post-work is about 99% I just need to fix some poke-throughs I missed. Coding is at 99% as well; I just need to code one and a half scenes. So the update is about to be done and sent to testing. Yay.

Writing? Writing is close to being where I want it to be. Hopefully, I can get the remaining written over the weekend so I can get back on schedule. Nothing big. I had my doubts with a couple of days being more fighting daz than anything else, but overall? Yeah, it’s going okay.

Just a "motivational render" today, no spoilers. There are some design choices that I made during Sorcerer 1 that I’m sort of second-guessing right now. Partly because I didn’t have a clue how to make the changes that I wanted. Now I might have a clue, but having the required skills is a different question. Ifrits are creatures of smoke and fire; the black skin represents the smoke, they just lack the fire parts. I have a couple of ideas for that, just need the time to test them out. If things work out as I planned? It will be a nice change, if not? Well, visually nothing changes. Anyway, quick break, then fixing the poke-through or three and finish the coding. Progress 09.03.2026

Hello all!

What’s up?! Rendering. I’m actually surprised; I have one and a half scenes left to render. About. This section has been slowish to render, but nothing bad. So yay?

Writing is going decently; not much to say about it. I have a goal for tonight, and so far it looks like I actually might reach it. Probably not now that I’ve said it.

This scene wasn’t really needed in a sense, but it serves as a certain type of affirmation for things. It might... show something interesting as well, and something that has been asked for a while, I suppose. Although need to actually write a short section that I didn’t think of originally when writing this part of the update. Ah well. So anyway. Things are looking good, kind of typical Monday update, I suppose. I’ll take a short break and continue with stuff.

Progress 06.03.2026

Hello all!

Rendering is in... surprisingly decent shape. I even think that I’m where I should be. And thus I’m more or less happy about that.

Writing? It’s getting there. The rhythm of writing has been off for a couple of weeks for some reason. It’s ongoing and I’m not worried about it; it’s just off, you know? But eh it’s on update 9 and all that, so yeah. Just yelling at the cloud I suppose due to irritation of my own making of sorts.

Detectives Cross, Graves, and Randall. When I introduced Shannon (aka Detective Randall) I wasn’t really thinking of making this scene, then later on when I was writing update five or six it just clicked that this might actually be more important to show than just gloss over as an event that happened in the background. This and paired with the update four "hidden" image, gives some... backstory. The problem with these interludes, if you will, is that they can be too spoiler-heavy if you aren’t careful. Now I’m glad that I introduced the hidden images in ToaM, they sort of allow me to show a portion of the story that isn’t necessarily important, but something that is nice to know. Or maybe I’m just thinking too deeply. Right, a short break then finishing the scene and some writing. You all have a great weekend!

Hello all!

What’s up? Rendering of 0.5.0 has started. Not much to say about it except that I’m behind schedule on that one. Mostly because I made and tested the builds today. So, yeah, the release cycle will start today. So hooray?

Writing? I’ll start writing the update 9 by Wednesday, I think. My workflow is all over the place right now for some reason so I’m trying to get it back to where it needs to be. But update 8 is pretty much done.

Ah, Inquisitor Morin... which, oddly enough, reminds me I need to finish the cult thing I’ve been writing. Right, in ToaM I didn’t really show the "enemy" pretty much at all. That was a sort of conscious decision back then. Partly because everything I could have shown would have been a major spoiler. In Sorcerer? Not really the case; there are multiple threads twisting and turning, so showing things from the opposite side isn’t that big of a problem. And now, the interesting stuff...
