Progress 29.09.2025 and Changelog for ToaM 0.50.0

Hello all!

Yay, it's release day, and back to the usual schedule with it. Not so yay? So what's up?

Rendering 0.51.0 has started, shock there I know. And now, as a reminder, this one will take longer to make. Usually the script is between 20 and 25 pages; this one is 31. There are sections where I can reuse the renders since portion of the scene is the same, just certain parts differs so need so see how it goes over these weeks. So do what you want with that knowledge.

Writing... The epilogue is done. It's 64 pages. Yeah... the final word count of ToaM is 396 830, and that's mostly dialogue. So where do we go from here? Well... Sorcerer 2, the writing of it has started. Hopefully, by the time I've done the rendering to ToaM I have three or four updates buffer, that would allow me to be more flexible with things. And since no spoilers... something else.

This was me testing a... let's say, story concept. One of the annoying things with Daz is that there are no environments, which I've told a hundred times by now. So, essentially, you need to write to what you can make. Luckily, I do have the opportunity, and that is why writing ahead is a good thing. Now this is interesting in a couple of ways, other than the textures leaving something to be desired, but that is easily masked by changing the time of the day and adding some ground fog. That and it needs a few more pieces of jungle in the background. What is most interesting is that this... is something related to how Sorcerer 2 starts. There is a sort of catalyst in how things start. Magical or mundane. Or in this case, it sort of both. What starts as mundane event turns in to something else. Why? Well... that you wait and see. Anyway the interesting stuff...

Progress 26.09.2025

Hello all!

Friday, and you know what that means! A progress post! So how are things?

Update 50 is done and handed to testing... and that's it. So much for being two days late, eh? Luckily for me, thanks to the temperatures shifting towards colder and my finally replacing the fans, my computer cools down faster and as a side effect rendering times dropped. So, I was able to pull 360 renders in a week. Yeah, not going to happen again... Truthfully, it was only quick because I didn't need to build sets. Something that is ahead in 0.51.0 a lot of it, there is no scene where I don't need to build a set.

So, I'll write over the weekend, take it a bit easier, I have about 15 pages to write and I'm done with the epilogue. Although I do have a feeling I should write one scene more, but... I'll see how it goes when I render things. Anyway...


Catching up with Uche. It's been a while since we've seen him, and it is a good time to see what he is up to. This was honestly the least spoiler I could give anymore. Yeah, the last few updates have been talking mostly, but that's the nature of the thing since... well... It isn't like you can call anyone to see how things are going five hundred miles to the south, or look things up on the internet. But that will change again in 0.51.0, obviously...



And then extra... At times these renders are a form for to clear my thoughts, to see what directions the story would go. Yeah, Alexander had a sword that he never used in Sorcerer, doubt that he uses it that much in Sorcerer 2 either; he has more convenient ways to deal with things. But I like it as an option. There is a reason why a lot of action movies do resort to hand-to-hand combat, simply because it is visually more exciting than simple ranged combat. And yes, there is someone new in the render. I probably should talk about some of the lore bits in more detail one of these days... Eh. Anyway. You all have a great weekend! I’ll go take a break and write!

Progress 22.09.2025

Hello all!

Progress post time! So what's up? Rendering is... eh. I'd say it is in an okay state considering I started rendering this update two days later than usual. Naturally, it will shift the rendering time a bit, but the complex scenes are done, and I actually started rendering the scene I wanted. Although slightly later than I wanted, it’s better than I expected.

Writing. It’s... flowing. While there is no real reason needed for Tomas to see any of the characters in the epilogue stage. It’s still nice to give a plausible reason, and you can feed some information about the choices you’ve made that way as well. So it’s good, and should be able to switch to full-time writing Sorcerer 2 by the end of the week.... assuming I didn’t jinx it again.

And then a small preview before rambling. There is bound to be some repetition with the dialogue; it’s human nature. I try to avoid it, but yeah, it happens. Still... Sanya and Malgrin are, or were catching up a bit.

And then the rambling bit. A bit of continuation from Friday. Being a "hunter" doesn’t mean you are skilled. Partially because most of the supernatural beings can mop the floor with them, they tend to rely on brute force. And they make a lot of mistakes, but what is one more unsolved murder or disappearance? But that doesn’t mean all of them are reckless zealots. The higher in the Inquisition hierarchy you climb, the smarter and better trained the hunter, or should I say Inquisitor in this case, is. The only problem for them? An actual Inquisitor who has passed all the tests and requirements is rare. How rare? It is written in my notes that there are only ten active Inquisitors in the world. So if one shows up? Things will get messy. This image, though? It’s just the generic hunters trying to get a name for themselves. They will fail... Anyway, short break and more rendering!

Progress 19.09.2025 and Changelog for ToaM 0.49.0

 Hello all!

Well, that took some time... rendering was done on Tuesday, builds were done on Wednesday and been uploading since... Yeah. But as I said on discord, because this update was late for unplanned reasons all patrons get it as soon as I get the details hammered out. Beyond that?

I started rendering update 0.50.0 on Tuesday, so obviously, starting two days later means I'm behind where I would want to be. But it is what it is. Render count-wise, I'm relatively close to where I should be, but that isn't what matters; it's the script. Ah well, I'll know on Monday how it looks like.

Writing? I... let's say decided how the final scenes go. Some people are grouped up when it makes sense, like the Nagas. Still lots of scenes to do as usual when it comes to epilogues. But overall I'm happy with the writing. So then, no preview since it would be rather hefty spoilers of what would happen in 0.49.0, sort of. So, something else with a bit of rambling before the good stuff.


The hunters, the Inquisition, and the church. I get asked this occasionally. They are and they aren't the same at the same time. It was said during Sorcerer that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand does. That is accurate and yet a simplification. Officially, neither the Inquisition nor the hunters exists. Unofficially, they still do "God's work" and are under the higher circles of the church, or churches since about every religion has them one way or the other. Not all hunters are part of the Inquisition, though. There are several "private" organisations that get used by the inquisition especially in the areas they aren't either welcome or don't have the manpower. And this leads to a clash within the church. The left hand, I titled it as "mercy work," which is basically the aid work that church has done (and still does) globally. Then there is the right hand, the "enforcers". Take the orphanage where Alexander grew up as an example, despite the nuns (and religious sisters) wearing a nuns habit they are from multiple faiths since the effort to protect the innocent is universal concept. To the inquisition that place is affront, and if they could they would wipe it out from the face of the Earth. That was one of the reasons why Maria was/is stationed to the orphanage, other similar orphanages have other protectors. But that only takes care of the ones who are in sanctuaries, there are other sisters (and brothers) of faith who act like the hunters do, but not to kill the supernatural beings, but to protect... some of them anyway. And bringing the orphans to the orphanage. And those sisters of faith (don't have notes with me so I forgot the order name) do clash with the hunters and inquisition regularly. Usually those encounters ends up with no survivors on one of the sides... And no, you don't know anyone from that image.... Anyway to the important stuff.

Progress 15.09.2025

Hello all!

Remember when I said something about famous last words? Yeah... On the positive side though, I've made three weeks worth of renders in two weeks. So what's up?

Doing the final scene of 0.49.0. It's been... a lot. The exact render count at the time of writing this is 613 renders; it's probably somewhat higher when this post goes live. Most of the coding is done for the update, just need to get the rest of the render names, as I've learned my lesson that I should not guess how many renders I end up needing. Usually, it’s a lot more than what I think, and it throws the names off, and then I have to redo them. It's not much though, about thirty renders maybe. Although now that I've said it, with how this update has gone, it's probably a hundred.

Writing is going, I've been altering between Sorcerer 2 and the scenes with the LI's, it's basically a short catch up so there isn't that many ways to say "yeah I'm fine, so how about we do X/Y/Z?" But yeah, all is good on that front. Relatively anyway.

Complex scenes. This... is the final preview of the update, well, for obvious reasons. Next time I'm doing a progress report, I'll be on 0.50.0... hopefully I didn't jinx it now. As you can see, things aren't going that well somewhere in the Empire... Pity that I didn't have the buildings at the start of ToaM, things would have been somewhat different in certain places. But yeah, they will be useful going forward. There are places where old-style Asian buildings still exist. And can always do flashbacks if need be... and if things require.

And the Imp, friend or foe? Truthfully, the imp never was a foe. He spied Alexander, yes, that was clearly seen. And he aided him when he awakened, partially covering the tracks and keeping him safe during the fire of the warehouse. Just certain someone didn't like him spying on hubby... In all honesty, the imp wasn’t even in the original script beyond the appearance in the warehouse where Alexander awakened. But then empty backgrounds needed filling, and Maie happened, also a character that wasn’t originally in the scripts and was mostly improvised on the spot during rendering. All worked out well in the end.

 

And this... this was just me being... let’s just say slightly loopy. While I haven’t really worked hard for this update, not like the one I did end of April; that was bad, it hasn't been exactly easy. For this, I’ve kept mostly to my normal schedule of work, sleep and breaks, just so I shouldn’t read anything late at night... I might get stuck with it and go to bed later than I intended... Another random character for mostly background stuff. He will return since it is vacation time for him when Sorcerer 2 starts... And maybe some more poker with Sobek, for him... Well not really Sobek but you know what I mean. Anyway, short break, and then finishing the renders.

Progress 12.09.2025

 

Hello all!

Okay, first things first regarding Android versions. They either work, or they don't. Currently, all the games I have work on the two devices I use for testing. I can't really debug them as is outside of my own debugging, especially when the error messages aren't useful at all. I'll try to fix and figure out what's wrong, but I wouldn't expect miracles. And going forward, Google will require developers to register with it for side-loading. This is just a forewarning of what might be coming in a few years.

And another note: if the links are broken let me know and I'll fix them. At times the links expire, and I just keep forgetting to update the pinned post for the latest ToaM version, but they are always available from the latest tier release post. Although the error message they give doesn't really have anything to do with that, go figure. So, feel free to send a message here or on Discord as I don't get notified of things that are written in the exit surveys...

Beyond that, I'm past 500 renders, and I still need to render one scene. At best, I think rendering might be done on Sunday, so yeah, this one will be late from the usual schedule, nothing I can do about it as renders take the time they take. In the meantime, I've been doing the post work, and tomorrow I'll do the coding, while still rendering...

Writing is in an okay state, remembered to add a few things I know people would like to see, so I added them to the mix. Depending on the rendering, I should be able to finish it up when I want, but... yeah, I think that might be in the category of famous last words at the moment. Annoying really, but it is what it is; no point losing sleep over it. And then some auxiliary writing. Eh, it will be done.

So... visitors. Been a while we've seen the northern masters. There hasn't really been any updates on how things are going in the North. This scene is partially to remedy that, and setting certain plot element links if there is a sequel to ToaM in the future...

And then something else. Exchange. This is just a concept of a thought (and to test the area), there are always "mythological" artifacts that have been lost, sold or hidden in some dungeon or other, or a cursed grove. Take your pick. Group A has something you need, so you need to get something the Group A wants in exchange. Those items and trades are fairly common in story telling, not always as direct as it would be in this image. They are there to provide "plausibility" instead of information falling into the protagonist lap. They might seem pointless side content, but they always have a purpose that isn't clear, and the information gained from them isn't necessarily clear either. Eh... things to think about. And need to make new textures somehow... Anyway. You all have a great weekend! I'll take a break and continue to render things...

Progress 08.09.2025

Hello all!

Blah... I knew this scene would be... problematic to do. But I still did it. Ah well. So what's up?

Rendering? I'm somewhere around 350 renders, give or take twenty or so, and about half way of the script. Technically, that's exactly where I should be since the original goal was 2 full weeks of development time. So I can safely say right now this update will be released later than usual. I'll do what I can while waiting for the renders, but still there's going to be a lot to do. Ah well.

Writing? I'm basically writing the... final encounters. There are a few things I'm debating how I should do them, but yeah it will be fine. Hopefully the thing is done by end of this week so I can move on to Sorcerer 2 and have a 3 or 4 update buffer again. So much easier that way.

Right... a preview. The plot thickens... I suppose. This is just prelude chat and decision time how to proceed. There haven't been that many choices in the last few updates, but that's because what is left is mostly consequences of the actions taken. There are some choices to make, but they mostly affect a few things in the epilogue now.

And then Tamara and the imp. Life of a demon on the "mortal" plane isn't easy. You can't be killed, but you can be banished. Meaning to get back you need to be summoned and be shackled to the summoner. It is possible to become unshackled or unbound, as it depends on the contract. For lesser demons such as imp? They are basically cannon fodder. They know this, but they also know that if they serve and are loyal, as much as they can, they might just gain enough power to become a full demon. I'm almost happy with this render. But the things I'm not happy are mostly related to camera angle. Couldn't mask... certain things that affect the portal effect. It is a cleverly built. Smoke and mirrors, quite literally. Anyway, short break and then more rendering and writing.

Progress 05.09.2025

Hello all!

Friday! So how are things?

Rendering. I'm not sure whether I am happy or annoyed with it. Render count-wise, I've done this week's quota. Relation to the script? Ehh.. I had to add a section, so not really? But that being said, if get the scene that I planned done today, it should be in decent shape... but... Yeah, this one will take time. I have a feeling that I should have written one more day, but alas... it's too late now. You reap what you sow and all that.

Writing. Most of the important parts of the epilogue are done. It's mostly the village matters and the visits to be left. That and I need to alter some things in this script since I completely forgot that I added a choice 20 updates ago, give or take... ah well... actually, solution to that is easier than I thought. It's just a line or two and some code. Hooray... sorted. Anyway.

This is the section where I need to add one or two lines, okay, make it ten (already written). The Empresses letter. Yes, it is going to be solved... sort of, depending on what you've chosen, and chose. Not all choices are good... Well, something more, cheerful next.

Ryder's dream, was it Ryder? Yes, yes it was. Man it's been a while. But yeah, updated his model a bit. Changed the hair, added some bling and so on. Too bad you can't see Sabrina's smirk from this angle. But I suppose you get what she is saying... I've always liked writing Sabrina, she is somewhat versatile personality. She is mischievous, but serious and polite when needed. At times she can be a bit naive but that comes mostly her being young. Eh... fun times. Anyway. I'll take a break, and then do more rendering. Progress 01.09.2025 and changelog for ToaM 0.48.0

Hello all!

Eh... What a start of the week, I found out that the script of 0.49.0 lost a section, so had to rewrite it so I'm slightly behind, and in other news this will be also one of the longer updates to render... Somehow I think I should have crammed one more update between now and the epilogue... meh. Not the first time nor the last, some things seem to be a good idea while writing.

So, rendering of 0.49.0 has started, one of those updates that will take time again. Luckily, it should be relatively easy, but realities are different...

Writing? Well outside of the quick writing on the 0.49.0 I'm on a good track regarding it. It's putting all the variables together, which I probably half forget despite going through the documentation I have for them. Then it's just visiting various people, and the ending slides as usual. Although those aren't thought of too deeply, they are what... the characters would be and do sometime later in life.

And yeah... No preview today for various reasons. Thus...

The cabin. The place where it began. The cabin is very important part of who Alexander is; he likes its quiet and solitude. Of course nowadays it means little as is, as there are people who enjoy the quiet and solitude as much as he does. But by now he is used to having a visitor or three there when he goes there. And yes, he still drives despite being able to teleport around. Partially because it raises fewer questions to go around a city or town in a car than zipping all over the place.

Ah, Miyuki... Miyuki has been a problematic character to "update". I'm never happy with how the hair is. The original? I like it, still like what it looks like in general, until there is a side view. Then, expressions are difficult. Every time they are fine in view port they look something else in a render. Eventually I just have to pick something and go for it, it isn't like there are that many new hairs made for Genesis 8 anymore. Ah well. Anyway, short break and then more rendering. And then to the important stuff...
